Gynecomastia Symptoms

Gynecomastia is the swelling of male breast tissue. In general, this is a benign problem and will not hurt you or cause any physical problems. If it is occurring on a male baby or a male going through puberty, this will generally resolve itself within a short amount of time. However, if you are an older male and are experiencing this problem, you might want to consider cosmetic surgery to alleviate this problem. Richard S Werner, M.D. can help. He provides cosmetic surgery for gynecomastia patients in Edina.

One of the most common symptoms of gynecomastia is one or both breasts feel enlarged or swollen. There is really no rhyme or reason to the growth either. It’s either even or uneven, and the growth will often appear just behind the nipple. Mild tenderness of the breast and/or nipple is yet another symptom. But if you feel a lump under your nipple that was not there before, it is best to get to your doctor as soon as possible to get it checked out, just to be on the safe side.

Pseudo-gynecomastia is when enlarged breasts are caused by extra body fat and being overweight or obese. The difference between this condition and gynecomastia is that pseudo-gynecomastia usually goes away when you lose weight. Your fatty breast tissue will feel the same as your fatty stomach tissue. But if your breast tissue feels like it is lumpy or like there is glandular tissue underneath, it is probably a result of gynecomastia. Going to your doctor to get checked out is a great way to determine if the fatty tissue is a result of pseudo-gynecomastia, gynecomastia or another health issue.
